Glasgow Airport, Scotland
Glasgow Airport (IATA: GLA) is the primary airport serving the western region of Scotland. The airport is the second busiest in Scotland after Edinburgh Airport and the eighth busiest in the UK, handling nearly 10 million passengers in 2017. The airport offers a comprehensive range of services and facilities for the convenience of passengers. Most flights handled at Glasgow Airport are short haul flights within the UK and destinations in Europe. Flights beyond Europe include destinations in the United States, Canada and the Middle East. The airport has two passenger terminals called the Main and T2 Terminals. Ground transport from Glasgow Airport includes shuttle buses, taxis and car rentals.

Glasgow Airport is the hub for Scottish regional airline Loganair, operating flights within Scotland including Sumburgh Airport in the Shetland Islands, Kirkwall Airport in the Orkney Islands, Stonorway Airport in the Outer Hebrides and Islay Airport in the Inner Hebrides. Flybe, EasyJet, Jet2.com, Ryanair, Thomas Cook and TUI Airways also have a base at Glasgow Airport, operating numerous flights to destinations within the UK and Europe. Other European airlines operating at the airport include Aer Lingus, British Airways, Eurowings, Icelandair, KLM and Wizz Air.
There are a number of US and Canadian airlines operating long haul (scheduled and seasonal) transatlantic flights between Glasgow Airport and destinations in North America. North American airlines flying the routes include Air Canada Rouge (Toronto), Air Transat (Toronto), American Airlines (Philadelphia), Delta Airlines (New York City) and United Airlines (Newark). Emirates also operate at Glasgow Airport flying long haul flights between Glasgow Airport and Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.
Free Wi-Fi access is available throughout Glasgow Airport for up to 60 minutes. After the period, there is a charge of £5 for 3 hours and £9 for 24 hours. Additionally, there are internet kiosks with printers and charging points for your mobile phones. There are Travelex foreign currency exchange desks located in the international baggage reclaim area and another in the arrivals area. There is also a Travelex desk in the domestic baggage reclaim area.
The airport has a good selection of food outlets and includes Central Sports & Bar Grill, Starbucks, Deli Kitchen Kafe, Fresh Food Central and Mozzo Coffee House. Additionally, there are over 60 vending machines throughout the airport offering a wide range of snacks, confectionery and soft drinks. Shops here include Tesco Express, WHSmith and World Duty Free. Other amenities include baby changing facilities, multi-faith prayer room and left luggage service.
Shuttle buses First 500 and First 77 depart every 10 minutes from the airport (taking different routes) to Buchanan Street Station, the main bus station in Glasgow and located in the city centre. Paisley Gilmour Street railway station is only a few minutes away by taxi or local bus (McGill’s 757) from Glasgow Airport. From the railway station, trains run regularly to Glasgow Queen Street and Glasgow Central Stations where you can continue your journey to other parts of Scotland.
If you prefer a taxi, there are taxis waiting directly in front of the airport’s main terminal. Only official Glasgow Airport Taxis can pick up passengers directly in front of the main terminal and operate round the clock. If you pre-book a minicab to pick you, the pick up point is at Car Park 2 opposite the main terminal building. There are several car rental companies at Glasgow Airport and include Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Europcar, Hertz, National, Sixt and Thrifty.
