Southampton Airport, England

Southampton Airport (IATA: SOU) is an international airport located in the county of Hampshire and about 7 km (4 miles) northeast of Southampton, a city on the southern coast of England. The airport is the largest and busiest on England’s southern coast handling over 2 million passengers in 2017. Southampton Airport comprises of a single runway and one passenger terminal with both arrivals and departures situated on the ground level. Flights at the airport include domestic and short haul flights between cities and holiday destinations on the European continent and the Republic of Ireland. Ground transport from Southampton Airport includes trains, local buses, taxis and car rentals.

Airport Facilities

Free Wi-Fi access is available throughout the terminal for the first 4 hours. After the period, there is a charge of £3 for 1 hour, £5 for 3 hours and £9 for 24 hours. Moneycorp operates a foreign currency exchange desk at the main concourse. Cash machines (ATMs) are located in the arrivals area (next to the Moneycorp counter) and departure area (next to WHSmith). Some cash machines can dispense both pound sterling and euro.

You can find a few food outlets in the terminal’s departure lounge. The food outlets operate seven days a week starting as early as 5 a.m. Menus range from full meals to quick bites such as rolls, sandwiches, burgers, pastries and rolls. WHSmith operates a retail outlet in the departure lounge where can you purchase magazines, newspapers, stamps, confectionery, snacks and drinks. There is also a duty-free shop in the departure lounge offering great savings for a wide range of items.

Ground Transport

There are regular train departures from the Southampton Airport Parkway (next to the airport) to Southampton’s city centre (7 mins), Winchester (10 mins), Bournemouth (35 mins), Reading (50 mins), Portsmouth (60 mins) and Waterloo Station in Central London (70 mins). Local buses depart regularly from the airport to various destinations including Southampton’s city centre. There is a taxi desk near the terminal’s entrance and the taxi rank is immediately outside the terminal building. Car rental companies here include Alamo, Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Europcar, Hertz and National.
