Tiree Airport (Hebrides), Scotland
Tiree Airport (IATA: TRE) is a small rural airport located on the island of Tiree off the western coast of the Scottish mainland in the Inner Hebrides. Tiree is a small island occupying an area covering 78 sq km (330 sq miles) and home to a population of just around 650. The island is low-lying and has a flat landscape featuring white sandy beaches. Tiree is one of the sunniest and windiest places in the UK that it attracts windsurfers earning the reputation as the ‘Hawaii of the North’. The largest settlement on the island is Scarinish with the only bank on the island, a hotel, grocery store and post office. Airport opening hours are from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Monday-Friday, 1:00 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. on Saturdays and 3:00 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. on Sundays.
Airlines & Flights
Scottish airline Loganair operates daily flights between Tiree Airport and Glasgow Airport, which offers connections to other destinations in Scotland, the rest of the UK and Europe. Another Scottish airline Hebridean Air Services operates twice-weekly flights between Tiree Airport and Oban Airport on the Scottish mainland and twice-weekly flights between Coll Airport in the Inner Hebrides.
Tiree Airport is a small rural airport and handled around 12,000 passengers in 2016. Airport facilities include a check-in desk, departure lounge, information desk, free Wi-Fi and a cafe serving cakes, pastries, light snacks and drinks.
Parking is free at Tiree Airport and there is an on demand dial-a-bus bus service stopping at the airport and around the island. Taxis can be booked in advance (advisable) or upon arrival from John Kennedy Taxis. You can rent a car with MacLennan Car Hire on arrival at the airport but advised to book in advance.
